Building Roots Toronto: Saturday Market Days
Building Roots Toronto is a non-profit that runs a accessible food market in the Moss Park area of Toronto. In the summer, Building Roots also offers public art programming for the community to enjoy. For two Saturdays of September 2021, Roshanie was invited to curate the space. She brought DJs and live painters to the community, specifically visual artists Melissa Boodoo and Syd Martinez-Khan and DJs Oak Eve, Good Job Steph and Asey. Roshanie & Friends
For the Rose Theatre’s ‘This is Brampton: Live Online’ series, Roshanie entertained the virtual audience with a DJ set and interviews with emerging artists from across Canada and the U.S. The stream was broadcast May 20, 2021 to Twitch and Vimeo. In charge of the look and feel of the stream, Roshanie invited special guests BEMATA from Brooklyn, Justine Tyrell from Calgary and Maria-Therese from Brampton and graphics were created by Kyera Mapp. Snippets from the stream can be viewed here.
Culture Calls
Culture Calls highlights Brampton creatives as they navigate the COVID-19 pandemic. Roshanie developed and curated the ongoing digital series in partnership with the City of Brampton. It began as an Instagram Live interview series in April and evolved into periodic online festivals that include commissioned artwork, virtual performances, panel discussions, and interactive music events. So far Culture Calls programming has facilitated creative opportunities for 30+ local creators. Roshanie looks forward to continuing this work shining a light on the talents and sounds coming out of her region.
