journalism
Like many performers, Roshanie has been tapping into different skills and interests throughout the pandemic. She has been leveraging her love of conversation, curiosity and storytelling skills as a journalist.
She is currently a journalist with Ryerson’s campus radio station, CJRU 1280AM, under the Local Journalism Initiative. She is passionate about celebrating underrepresented communities and reporting on contemporary social issues like the housing crisis, food justice and racial justice. Her politics and storytelling are greatly informed by the spirit of underground arts communities in Toronto and beyond. Her recent stories reporting with CJRU include human rights and housing advocates taking Toronto to court, the realities of receiving ODSP during the pandemic and how a local relief fund is supporting restaurant workers one gift card at a time.
Outside of her local news reporting with CJRU, she is available for freelance music journalism. Recently, she published a review of Shamik’s Gaali for Vancouver-based Rungh magazine.
